| Heather, a government analyst, was scared when she first sought help from Fidos. The worst aspect of requesting a hearing dog was that, for the first time in her life, she had to publicly admit that her independent personality was fading with each passing day as her deafness grew. She had become socially stunted – avoiding meeting new people, isolating herself at work and declining social invitations. Naturally, her strong personality clashed initially with her strong-willed standard poodle, Lincoln, but over the years of their partnership, their common resiliency shines in both halves of their team.
Lincoln has become Heather’s joy and her dependence on him continues to increase, but with that, so has her independence. Heather shared that “It’s because of Lincoln and what he brings to my life that I have driven myself back to being independent and to branch out socially. He allows me to focus less on my loss of hearing and more on enjoying life with him in it.” |
