Fran and her therapy dog, Trista, were on a hospital visit.   Fran knocked on a door that was slightly ajar and said, ” We are here with the Therapy Dogs. Would you like a visit?” As she slowly pushed the door open, Fran saw an elderly woman in the hospital bed and 3 women gathered around it. One said “Yes, please come in.  My mother loved dogs.” Fran began to realize that the mother had just died.  One of the women asked, ” Could one of the dogs sit on the bed with my mother?” Fran directed Trista to jump onto the bed, and she snuggled up very close to the mother’s body and stayed there. Meanwhile, the three women were petting and hugging the other therapy dog and periodically looking over at the bed where Trista was snuggled up to their mother.  After about 15 minutes, one of the women said, ” I feel like Trista has delivered Mom to heaven’s gate. Thank you so much for being here. You’ve turned a horrible day into a bearable day”. And so unexpectedly, a Therapy Dog helped four women through a difficult day.
